Panpot’s “Recommended” Series offers intriguing not-to-be-missed events and happenings for you to digest, hand-selected by our contributing gurus.

There is always something intriguing about a happening where various performers from different circles get together for a special project. It is undoubtedly linked to the often spontaneous and unexpected results that await everyone involved, like a certain unravelling, from the audience right down to the performers.

That thrilling sensation will assuredly be present during the 32nd edition of LABprojects at O Patro Vys on Saturday November 18th, as Jason Sharp (pictured above) curates a special evening which brings together selected jazz and funk talents from around Montreal.

Sharp has assembled members from his successful Mobius project, and combined them with sharp shooters such as keyboardist Andres Vial (of The Null Set, Pest 5000, Squarewaves & Tempus Fugit), Josh Zubot (who will be doubling on the violin and warped beats & electronics), sought-after double-bassist Adrian Vedady, as well as Matt Lederman of Moondata (who should be shifting roles from conductor to participant). Rounding out the all-star cast will be Jahsun (Kalmunity) and Pat McGee (Stars), both of whom will be responsible for the percussive elements. So it’s safe to say that all the ingredients will be tossed for an engaging, if not mind-numbing experiment.

This crafty musical event has proven to be both prolific and enduring. Moondata Productions’ LABprojects series is now in its 4th year of bringing together various local musicians for curious collaborations. Past participants have included everyone from Sixtoo and Miles Perkins, down to Kid Koala and Sam Shalabi.

For LABprojects 32, expect the unexpected.

Saturday November 18th. Doors open at 8:30pm.
